Another significant SDG project is one step closer to delivery!
Today we're celebrating the recent lodgement of a DA for The Salvation Army's proposed new community services hub at Mount Druitt.
The new facility, to be known as The Lighthouse, is set to deliver services across the health, welfare, employment, finance, youth, counselling, education and well-being sectors, along with a much-needed stock of social housing, including accommodation dedicated to supporting youth.
SDG is proud to have been a part of the project from the earliest stages of concept development.
The Lighthouse is set to be delivered under a collective impact model, bringing together a range of community services, arts, cultural and support organisations in one place.
SDG Managing Director, Richard Ollerhead, said: "We love being a part of projects which bring together aligned project partners to deliver something that really impacts the local community. So, we're very pleased to be playing our part in delivering this crucial piece of social infrastructure, particularly in partnership with The Salvos."
One of the keys to achieving a feasible project at Mount Druitt was securing a Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant from the NSW Government, with SDG overseeing the successful funding application.
SDG then moved into stakeholder engagement and project coordination roles for the project. And with a DA now lodged, we're excited to see things through the assessment process all the way to project delivery.
The Lighthouse is set to be a key feature of a broader civic and cultural precinct being developed by Blacktown City Council at Mount Druitt.
SDG's Senior Project Manager, Tom Fuggle, said the new facility would be a significant and attractive addition to the Mount Druitt town centre as well as delivering vital community services.
"From the beginning, we've been focused on delivering a development that the local community will come to love. Working alongside architects Plus Studio, we're really pleased with the plans that have been lodged for a facility that promises to be a real feature of Mount Druitt for future generations."
