In late 2024, SDG partnered with Wesley Mission to deliver a vital housing initiative under the NSW Government’s Community Housing Innovation Fund (CHIF), securing $5 million in funding to acquire 13 two-bedroom units along the Mid-North to Far North Coast of NSW. This project addresses the urgent need for crisis and transitional housing for young people aging out of foster care—one of the most vulnerable groups at risk of homelessness.
SDG led the property acquisition process, applying expertise in real estate and social infrastructure to identify and secure cost-effective, durable, and well-located housing. Through disciplined budget management and strategic negotiation, SDG successfully completed the acquisitions at a final cost that was $30,000 under budget, while ensuring all properties met Wesley’s criteria for long-term sustainability and tenant well-being in transitional housing.
All units needed to be sturdy, low-maintenance, and move-in ready, with minimal need for refurbishment. Properties were selected for their size, layout, and shared-living suitability, ensuring adequate bedroom and communal spaces for young tenants.
The acquired properties are now providing stable housing solutions, strategically located near to Wesley Mission’s offices and support services, offering young tenants a pathway to independence through Wesley’s wrap-around support.
This project demonstrates the benefit of strategic partnerships in tackling housing insecurity and showcases SDG’s ability to deliver community-driven property solutions that align with social impact goals.
