SDG played a key role in the acquisition and construction management of Hunter Bible Church’s newest and largest church site in Garden Suburb. Driven by HBC’s vision to establish a permanent home for its growing congregation in the west of Newcastle, SDG helped secure an ideal site through strategic negotiation and financial planning. This enabled HBC to purchase the property outright and set a strong foundation for development. The location was considered ideal, not only for its accessibility and size but also for its visibility in the community. As Senior Pastor Greg Lee reflected, “For the first time, people can see us.”
SDG’s oversight of the construction phase ensured smooth delivery, with responsibilities including the coordination of contractors, management of costs, refining of designs, and efficient scheduling. This approach resulted in significant cost savings whilst enhancing the functionality of both indoor and outdoor spaces. The outcome is a purpose-built facility that supports worship, ministry, and community outreach.
Opened in August 2024, the new site is a dynamic and contemporary hub, featuring a revitalised and expanded auditorium, informal lounges, a café, kitchen, and dedicated break-out spaces. It enables ministries previously unfeasible in temporary venues, including youth programs, midweek community gatherings, and expanded outreach initiatives. Although the congregation had been meeting for many months prior to opening, the new building brought a renewed sense of unity, presence and connection. As one member shared on the opening Sunday, “Even though we launched the congregation six months ago, this weekend it feels like family.”
